White grape varieties

The white grape varieties of the Rhône Valley play a key role in crafting rich, diverse, and expressive white wines. They are divided between the Northern Rhône, where a few iconic varieties like Viognier and Marsanne dominate, and the Southern Rhône, which offers a broader range for blending, including Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, Viognier, Bourboulenc, Marsanne, etc.

In response to climate change, heat- and drought-resistant white grape varieties, such as Vermentino (also known as Rolle), are becoming increasingly popular in the vineyards of the Southern Rhône. The diversity and complementarity of white grape varieties are fundamental to the unique identity of the region's wines, whether crafted as single-varietal wines or blends.
