General characteristics 

This variety is known by a number of different names: Piquepoul, Picapoll, Picpouille, Avillo and even Picapulla. The compact clusters are of normal size, cylindrical/conical in shape and always winged. The berries, too, are of medium size. This variety is heavy-yielding but needs hard pruning.

Wine-making potential

Picpoul grapes produce a neutral, dry white wine of middling quality. When blended with other varieties, it can contribute to wines that are stylish, distinctive and with a high alcoholic content.

Use

This grape is grown in the Gard and sometimes in the Gigondas area.
